Australia’s first Accredited Menopause Friendly Workplace announced

Menopause Friendly Australia proudly announces Deloitte as the first recipient of The Menopause Friendly Accreditation in Australia. This prestigious workplace accreditation recognises organisations that have demonstrated a commitment to creating supportive, inclusive, and accommodating environments for employees experiencing menopause.

Accrediting the first workplace in Australia represents a significant step forward in encouraging all employers to address the unique challenges faced by people experiencing menopause. The accreditation process, which includes a thorough independent evaluation of workplace initiatives across five global standards aims to raise the bar for how organisations support their people during this inevitable phase of life.

Pip Dexter, Deloitte Australia Chief People and Purpose Officer said “We know that menopause and its symptoms can disrupt the ability of our people to thrive in the workplace. And because it has largely been a taboo topic until recently, many women fear that disclosing their reproductive health issues may negatively impact their careers. As an employer, we have a responsibility to address these issues. Not only is it the right thing to do, it is a critical way to drive inclusion and equity,”

“We are proud to lead the way in setting a new standard for menopause support; it reinforces our commitment to breaking gender norms and supporting the health and wellbeing of our people through all life stages.”

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation Independent Panel rated the application as outstanding.

“Congratulations to the team at Deloitte for achieving Australia’s first Menopause Friendly Accreditation. Your application truly stood out demonstrating a genuine commitment to transforming supporting the experience of menopause in the workplace.” Said Belinda Steffan, Independent Panel Member, The Menopause Friendly Accreditation.  “You’ve not only implemented comprehensive policies and support systems but have created an environment where many employees reported feeling safe to talk openly about menopause and seek help when needed. By upskilling your workforce around people-first management practices and actively challenging menopause myths and stigma, you’ve set a powerful example for others to follow. Your dedication to lasting organisational cultural change is evident, and this accreditation is a testament to your hard work and passion.”

“We are thrilled to acknowledge Deloitte Australia as a leading organisation that have set a new benchmark in supporting employees through menopause,” said Grace Molloy, CEO Menopause Friendly Australia. “Deloitte’s dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment is a testament to their commitment to the wellbeing of their people at all life stages. They join a distinguished group of over 100 aspirational employers who have been accredited in the UK including Fujitsu, HSBC, Unilever and Specsavers.”

Key Components of the Menopause Friendly Accreditation

Tailored Support: Accredited workplaces have implemented personalised support measures, acknowledging that menopause affects everyone differently and each workplace is unique. Employers who succeed in providing tailored support put their people first, asking what would be most supportive for them, co-designing initiatives that are genuinely helpful. Some of these measures include flexible work arrangements, access to health resources and training, and leave entitlements.

Education and Awareness: Recognising the importance of breaking down stigma, accredited organisations have invested in comprehensive training programs for managers and employees. This training equips staff with the knowledge and tools needed to foster a supportive and empathetic work environment.

Facility Enhancements: The accredited workplaces have made necessary adjustments to their facilities to ensure they are menopause-friendly. This includes considerations such as appropriate uniforms, access to period products, and provisions for comfort, like portable fans and cold drinking water.

About The Menopause Friendly Accreditation

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation was established in 2021 to recognise and promote best practice in creating menopause friendly workplaces. The accreditation provides a framework for employers to develop and implement policies and practices that address the diverse needs of people experiencing menopause, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and supportive work environment.
