Meet Our Trainers: Mimi Wong- Moments That Matter during World Menopause Day 2026
In the lead-up to World Menopause Day, we’re inviting people to share a Moment That Matters. Because when small moments come together, they can create meaningful change.
Meet Mimi Wong our Adelaide based facilitator and trainer.
Tell us about your background…
I was born in Hong Kong and came to Australia when I was 18 months old. I used to tell people that I was born on the plane trip over! I am married and re-married to my husband, we had a five year break (divorce) from each other and have been happily remarried to each other for 16 years now. I am a mum to a two-legged 25 year old and two four-legged labradoodles.
What has been your work life journey to date?
I am currently a Leadership and Strategy Senior Consultant. I have always been in roles that involve people whether it’s customer facing or training and coaching people. My passion is understanding how people tick and helping them get better at something.
Which part of your own story or lived experience most drives your commitment to this work?
I went through perimenopause about nine years ago but didn’t know that it was perimenopause at the time. It certainly wasn’t as widely spoken about back then. I honestly thought I had early onset dementia and went on anti-depressants for my anxiety. I went from being a very confident and happy person, to not even trusting myself to park my car. I don’t want anyone else to go through what I went through.
If I had just known the reason for all my symptoms, it would have given me a lot of comfort. That’s why I am so passionate about education and awareness.
What’s one surprising twist in your path to becoming a trainer?
I was curious about how I could get more educated on menopause and by chance, I turned on the TV and a re-run of The Project came on with the story on how MFA educates organisations on menopause! I sent in a query form, Grace reached out to me, and the rest (as they say) is history! I feel so honoured to do this work!
What part of this work genuinely lights you up?
I am overly open about my menopause so it’s quite common for me to bring it up in my other workshops, that I’m having a ‘menopause brain fart moment’ or I’ll bring out my portable fan, and without fail, it always prompts at least one or two other women who can empathise! It’s truly a bonding moment – it helps you feel less lonely in this phase which is so important for our sanity!
Outside of training, what’s your secret passion or hobby?
I am getting reacquainted with one of my childhood hobbies of drawing! I love sketching with pencil and love sketching my dogs! I am inspired my Poh’s artwork and one of my prized possessions is an original Poh painting called Memory.
